According to the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Planning and Investment, in 10 months of 2022 (from January 1, 2022, to October 20, 2022), the number of foreign-invested projects newly granted investment registration certificates was 693 projects with registered investment capital of nearly 443.91 million USD. In addition, foreign investors pledged to increase investment capital to existing135 projects by 1.55 billion USD. Foreign investors poured over 3.42 billion USD into Ho Chi Minh City - Viet Nam's biggest economic locomotive, over the last 10 months of the year, equal to 125.3 percent in comparison with the same period last year. Meanwhile, 97 foreign direct investment (FDI) projects capitalized at US$137.33 million, stopped operation.
Up to now, the total number of valid foreign investment projects in Ho Chi Minh City is 11,115 projects (leading the country in the number of valid projects) with the total investment capital, including newly granted, increasing capital is about 55.7 billion USD. Regarding investment territory in the city, Singapore took the lead among nations and territories investing in the city with 1,601 projects worth over 13.6 billion USD, followed by Japan and the Republic of Korea with 5.47 billion USD and 5.46 billion USD, respectively. Regarding investment sectors, processing and manufacturing ranked first among sectors receiving FDI with 1,555 projects valued at more than 20.3 billion USD. Real estate was the runner-up with 16.2 billion USD in 394 projects and retail sales and auto repair came third with 5.3 billion USD.
