Dak To District, Kon Tum Province
The People’s Committee of Kon Tum Province has officially approved the zoning task for the development of a centralized industrial park specializing in the production and processing of medicinal herbs in Dak To District. With a planned area of over 218 hectares, this strategic move aims to foster sustainable industrial development, capitalize on the province’s unique herbal resources, and contribute to local economic restructuring.
According to Decision No. 264/QĐ-UBND recently issued, the planned area spans Tan Canh Commune and Dak To Town. Its boundaries are defined as follows: the east borders the 500kV high-voltage transmission line; the west borders the Dak Po Ko River; the south borders the Dak To Kan River; and the north adjoins local agricultural production land.
The total planned area is approximately 218.24 hectares, of which about 208.24 hectares will be allocated for industrial infrastructure, focusing primarily on the production and processing of medicinal herbs. The remaining 10 hectares are reserved for worker housing and public service facilities, aimed at supporting the labor force and professionals working in the park.
The Dak To Herbal Medicine Industrial Park is part of Kon Tum Province’s industrial spatial development orientation for the 2021–2030 period, with a vision to 2050, approved by the Prime Minister of Vietnam. The project aims to establish a specialized industrial park with modern, synchronized, and environmentally friendly infrastructure, becoming a large-scale herbal medicine processing hub and a key driver of the province’s core industrial sector.
According to the plan, the industrial park will focus not only on processing traditional and endemic medicinal herbs such as Ngoc Linh ginseng, angelica, and Polygonum multiflorum (Ha Thu O) but also on building a complete value chain—from raw material cultivation to processing, preservation, and export. The park will be designed to meet the criteria of specialized industrial parks as stipulated in Decree No. 35/2022/ND-CP issued by the Government.
Once operational, the industrial park is expected to employ approximately 5,800 workers, with housing demand estimated at around 1,842 people, including both workers and specialists. This opens up significant opportunities for social infrastructure development, job creation, and income improvement for local communities.
The People’s Committee of Dak To District stated that this zoning plan lays an essential foundation for the effective and lawful use of land, while enhancing investment attraction from both domestic and foreign enterprises. The establishment of a centralized herbal medicine industrial zone will also stimulate supporting sectors such as logistics, technical services, materials and equipment supply, and particularly ancillary industries for herbal medicine production.
Beyond its economic benefits, the project carries strategic significance in leveraging Kon Tum’s natural resource advantages—especially medicinal herbs—which are a standout strength of the province. This is also a new model of industrial development, aligned with the green transformation agenda, high-tech application, and sustainable economic growth coupled with environmental protection.
With a long-term vision and a well-conceived development strategy, the Dak To Herbal Medicine Industrial Park is expected to become a key driver for Kon Tum’s economic restructuring, boosting the industrial sector’s share in the province’s GRDP, and gradually positioning Kon Tum as a national leader in Vietnam’s herbal medicine industry.
