During theworkshop, experts presented about development models, institutions and policiesfor wind and solar power developments in the Hawaiian Islands, Italy, Australiaand possible suggestions might be applied to develop Ninh Thuan to become acenter of renewable energy in Vietnam.
Speaking at the Workshop, Chairman of Ninh Thuan People's Committee said that the whole province currently has 30 solar power projects with a total capacity of1,817MW, a total registered capital of more than VND 50,000 billion and 11 windpower projects with a capacity of more than 630MW, a total investment of morethan VND 22,100 billion has been approved by the Prime Minister and theMinistry of Industry and Trade of electricity development plannings and granted investment policy decisions. So far, 18 projects with a total capacity of 1,180MW have been put into operation. This includes 15 solar power projects with atotal capacity of 1,063 MW and 3 wind power projects with a capacity of 117 MW. It is expected that by the end of 2019, Ninh Thuan will have four more solar power projects with a capacity of 140 MW and 614 MW of 12 projects that will continue to be operated by 2020.
At the seminar, building Ninh Thuan development model to become the center of renewable energy of the whole country, PhD. Doan Van Binh, Director of the Institute of Energy Science gave the evaluation criteria and the process of implementing five main steps including: Identify strategic vision of building renewable energy areas in Ninh Thuan; locate areas with technical potential; assess the economic potential and commercial benefits; develop capacity transmission options; select transmission options that match technical,economic, environmental and social criteria.
