On the morning of June 22, Da Nang City held the Announcement Ceremony for the Prime Minister's Decision on the establishment of the Da Nang Free Trade Zone (FTZ). This marks the first FTZ model in Vietnam, which is expected to create an institutional breakthrough and position Da Nang as an internationally-recognized development hub.
At the ceremony, Standing Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Hoa Binh officially presented Decision No. 1142/QD-TTg, issued by the Prime Minister on June 13, 2025, concerning the establishment of the Da Nang FTZ.
Mr. Le Trung Chinh, Chairman of Da Nang City, affirmed that the FTZ's establishment is a highlight of strategic significance derived from the National Assembly's Resolution No. 136/2024/NQ-QH15 on special mechanisms and policies for the city's development. This is considered a pioneering new institutional model nationwide, expected to create an international-level development space capable of driving green growth, innovation, and attracting strategic investment.
The Da Nang Free Trade Zone spans approximately 1,881 hectares, distributed across seven non-contiguous locations, primarily concentrated in Lien Chieu District and Hoa Vang District. Notably, the zone is planned for development in conjunction with Lien Chieu Port and the city's International Financial Center.
The FTZ comprises key functional areas:
• Manufacturing and Logistics: Developed to become an international manufacturing center and transshipment hub for goods.
• Trade - Services: Forming a high-quality service center with a spillover effect across the Central and Central Highlands regions.
• Digital Technology, Innovation Industry: Promoting the development of high-tech and digital transformation.

The formation of the Da Nang FTZ carries several strategic expectations:
• Global Position: To become a crucial link connecting the East-West Economic Corridor, the Asia-Pacific region, and the global supply chain network.
• Growth Pole: To serve as a strategic growth pole for the Central region and the entire country.

Da Nang's city leadership committed to urgently review and develop an implementation plan to ensure the FTZ becomes operational soon. Furthermore, the city will continue to propose additional more open and superior mechanisms and policies under the authority of the National Assembly and the Government to maximize the model's potential.
