In mid-November, Mr. Vincent Clerc, Director of A.P.Moller - Maersk Group (Maersk) visited Vietnam and had a meeting and working session with General Secretary To Lam.
Maersk is a large Danish logistics and shipping group with the desire to find investment opportunities and build large container ports in Vietnam, with a green, low-carbon development orientation.
Mr. Vincent Clerc said that the company highly appreciates Vietnam's economic development achievements in the context of many challenges facing the world. Vietnam is an important partner of this group in the region and the world.
The Director of Maersk Group shared his desire to explore investment opportunities to build large, modern, green container ports and strategic logistics projects in Vietnam. Through this, the Group will support Vietnam in increasing import-export turnover, transitioning to a low-carbon economy, adapting to climate change and soon achieving the goal of net zero emissions.
"Our Group sees many potentials and great opportunities and wishes to contribute more to Vietnam's development," said Mr. Vincent Clerc.
General Secretary To Lam welcomed the plan to expand investment in Vietnam in developing a green, smart seaport system and logistics services, and said that Vietnam has been focusing on developing infrastructure, including green seaports to serve the goal of sustainable development. He encouraged Maersk Group to invest in areas such as the maritime economy, and said that Vietnam is ready to facilitate foreign investors to develop logistics projects.
Vietnam is among the 20 economies with the largest international trade scale in the world. The operator is promoting the development of a synchronous, widespread and seamless transport infrastructure to increase the competitiveness of the Vietnamese economy.
Vietnam and Denmark established a Comprehensive Partnership in 2013 and a Green Strategic Partnership in 2023. According to General Secretary To Lam, this is the driving force to promote the strong development of the relationship between the two countries in all fields following the trend of green and sustainable development.
