FDI attraction in the first 3 months of 2023

According to the Ministry of Planning and Investment, as of March 20, 2023, the total newly registered capital, adjusted and contributed capital to buy shares, and buy contributed capital of foreign investors reached about 5.45 billion USD, equal to 61.2 percent over the same period last year. 


 
Structure of foreign investment capital in the first 3 months of 2023 
compared to the same period in 2022

Of which, there were 522 new foreign-invested projects, valued at 3 billion USD, were granted licenses, up 62,1% year-on-year; 234 projects registering for capital adjustment, with a total additional capital of 1,21 billion USD, down 70,3% in value compared to the same period in 2022.  Also in the first three months of the year, there were 440 times of capital contributions and share purchases from foreign investors, with the total value of capital contribution reaching nearly $797.9 million, up 10 percent in number and 3.7 percent in capital over the same period.

Regarding investment sectors, foreign investors had invested in 17 sectors out of 21 national economic sectors; of which, the processing and manufacturing industry continued to lead with a total investment capital of nearly 4 billion USD, accounting for 73% of total registered investment capital. Real estate came next with a total investment of 766 million USD, accounting for 14,1% of the total. Followed by wholesale and retail with over 276 million USD, and logistics with 151 million USD.


 
10 provinces attracting the most FDI in the country in March 2023

Regarding investment locations, the foreign investors had invested in 44 provinces and cities nationwide in the first three months of 2023. Bac Giang led the way with 1.1 billion USD, making up 20.3 % of the total and rising 5.2 times over the same period in 2022, becoming the first province with a total registered FDI capital exceeding 1 billion USD in 2023. The investment capital of Bac Giang increased sharply due to 3 large projects with investment capital of over 100 million USD, accounting for 97% of Bac Giang's total investment capital in 3 months. Dong Nai ranked second with 18 new projects with a total registered capital of 607 million USD, making up 11.1% of the total, 3 times higher than the same period last year. In the first 3 months of 2023, Dong Nai has 18 newly licensed projects valued at 64.36 million USD; 22 projects registering for capital adjustment, with a total additional capital of more than 323.43 million USD; 8 times of capital contributions and share purchases with the value of capital contribution reaching about 607 million USD.


  Bac Giang attracted more than 1 billion USD of FDI in the first 3 months of 2023.

In the first 3 months of 2023, the total registered investment capital of Quang Ninh and Ho Chi Minh City increased sharply over the same period. With a total registered capital of 341.82 million USD, 3 times higher than the same period in 2022, Quang Ninh ranked 7th in the country. Meanwhile, the total registered capital of Ho Chi Minh City reached 497.53 million USD, 1.2 times higher than the same period in 2022, ranking 4th in the country.
