HO CHI MINH CITY TO BUILD THE FIRST AND LARGEST MEDICAL, PHARMACEUTICAL INDUSTRIAL PARK IN VIETNAM

On the morning of March 8, the Ho Chi Minh City  Department of Health announced that the People's Committee of Ho Chi Minh City issued a decision approving the project to develop the city's pharmaceutical industry by 2030 with a vision to 2045". This is an important step for Ho Chi Minh City, paving the way for the establishment of the largest medical and pharmaceutical industrial park in the country."

Mr. Tang Chi Thuong, Director of Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health, said: Vietnam is facing a shortage of drugs in the context of disruption in the supply of finished drugs and raw materials for domestic drug production due to the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic and instability due to political conflicts between several countries around the world.

Therefore, ensuring pharmaceutical security has become a top priority in the healthcare sector, with a focus on supply chain management and the enhancement of domestic pharmaceutical manufacturing capacity.

The city has the potential to develop the pharmaceutical industry because it is the commercial center of the southern region, convenient for transporting and supplying drugs to other areas.

This is where research facilities, training facilities and production facilities are concentrated.

Mr. Thuong said that pharmaceutical production, business and import-export activities in the city always have a high growth rate and account for a large proportion of the country's pharmaceutical economic structure.

This project is considered a strategic action program to meet the requirements of economic, scientific and technical development integration. This project has 2 general goals, as follows:

Firstly, the city will focus on transferring technology for producing drugs and medical equipment, prioritizing the production of medical equipment using advanced technology, producing vaccines, biological products, and new drugs,

inventing drugs to meet domestic disease prevention and treatment needs.

Medicine production will gradually replace imported medicines, and Vietnamese medicines produced will be exported to other countries at competitive prices. Secondly, the project aims to establish and develop a specialized medical and pharmaceutical industrial park in Ho Chi Minh City. The implementation of the Project complies with the Partyand State's policies on improving people's health and strengthening state management of the medical and pharmaceutical field in the city.

The specialized medical and pharmaceutical industrial park will have the following main functions:

- Serving as a center for research, development, and innovative initiatives in the field of healthcare.

- Concentrating facilities for manufacturing and trading specialized medical and pharmaceutical products, as well as ancillary products within the high-tech segment.

- Operating as a trading hub for specialized medical and pharmaceutical products, along with ancillary items.

The industrial park is expected to be completed and put into use by 2030, with special support policies from the Central Government and the city, to create a favorable environment for businesses to bring products to the market.

The Department of Health said that Ho Chi Minh City has planned a specialized medical and pharmaceutical industrial park in Le Minh Xuan 2 industrial park with an area of 338 hectares (Le Minh Xuan commune, Binh Chanh district).
