Geographical location: The province is bounded by Kon Tum to the north, Dak Lak to the south, Quảng Ngãi, Bình Định and Phú Yên to the east, Ratanakiri (Cambodia) to the west.

Population: 1,272,792

Topographic: The terrain gradually slopes from the north to the south and from the east to the west. Mountainous area covers 40% natural area; 33% natural area is highland and the left is valley area.

Administrative units: Include Pleiku city, two towns of An Khê, Ayun Pa and 13 districts: Chư Păh, Chư Prông, Chư Sê, Đăk Đoa, Đăk Pơ, Đức Cơ, La Grai, La Pa, Kbang, Kông Chro, Krông Pa, Mang Yang and Phú Thiện

Natural resources: There are four types of soil: alluvial soil, black soil, grey soil, and yellow red soil. Gia Lai has 749,769 hectares of forest land with various forest types. The wood productivity can be 75.6 million m3. Gia Lai accounted for 30% forest area and 38% wood product of the Central Highland. Besides, Gia Lai has various mineral resources such as Chromium, Nickel, Cobalt, Tin, Arsenic, bauxite, Gold, Wolfram, etc.

Travel resources: Gia Lai has great potentiality for developing tourism with intact forests and ecology system, many waterfall, stream, lake and mountain (Biển Hồ, MangYang heaven gate and Hàm Rồng mountain).

Human resources: The labour force accounted for 53% of the total population. 10% of labourers are skillful ones. The population and labour force have been increasing rapidly, which requires the development of training and education.

Traffic: Transportation system includes roadway and airway. There are several national highways running through the province: National highway No.19 from Pleyku city to Quy Nhơn seaport in Bình Định province, National highway No. 14, 25 to other provinces in central high land and coastal provinces in the Central area. Pleyku airport has 6 flights to Ho Chi Minh city, Đà Nẵng and Hanoi everyday

Post and Telecommunication Systems: The system has been digitalized and connected to the national system. There are 25,000 subscribers. 80% of the communes, wards, towns in the locality have telephone service.

Systems Industrial Zone: Gia Lai has Trà Đa industrial zones (124.5ha) in Pleiku city and other industrial zones of Bắc Biển Hồ, Hàm Rồng, Trà Bá, Play Ku, Chư Sê, and An Khê

The economic structure:


Has been shifted in the way of increasing the proportion of industry – construction and services while that of agriculture and forestry. The proportion of industry and construction increased by 8.6 % and services 0.58% while that of agriculture and forestry fell by 8.66%.
