Thanh Hoa borders with other provinces and countries as follows:
- The North: Son La, Hoa Binh, Ninh Binh with a 175km long boundary.

Topographic:
Thanh Hoa terrain is diversified, lowering from the West to the East, divided into 3 typical regions:
+ The plateau and mountainous region has a natural land area of 839,037 ha, accounting for ¾ provincial total areas, the average height of the mountainous area is from 600 to 700m, the slope is over 25o; midland has an average height of 150-200m, the slope is from 15 -20o.;
+ The plain region: has a natural land area of 162,341 ha, accounting for 14.61% of the province's area, deposited by the systems of Ma River, Song Bang, Song Yen and Song Hoat. The average height is 5-15m, alternating with low hills and independent limestone mountains. The Ma River Delta has the third largest area after the Mekong Delta and the Red River Delta;
+ The coastal region: covers an area of 110,655 ha, accounting for 9.95% of the province's area, with a 102 km long coastline and relatively flat terrain. Running along the coast are the estuaries. Coastal sandy land has an average height of 3-6 m, has famous Sam Son beach and other resorts such as Hai Tien (Hoang Hoa) and Hai Hoa (Tinh Gia) ...; There are large areas of land favorable for aquaculture and development of industrial parks and marine economic services.
