Quang Ninh is bounded by Guangxi of China and Lang Son province to the North, by Bac Ninh and Hai Duong province to the West, by Hai Phong city to the South and by Gulf of Tonkin by the East.

Topographic:
80% the area of the province is mountains that mainly lines in the North while a fifth of the area in the Southeast province is plain belonging the Red river delta. Quang Ninh administrates many islands. The seabed of Quang Ninh sea is not flat because of many creeks which are habitants for coral reefs. It is about 20m deep.
Administrative units: Quang Ninh is divided into 3 cities (Ha Long city, Mong Cai city and Uong Bi city); 1 town: Cam Pha and 10 districts: Ba Che, Binh Lieu, Co To, Dam Ha, Dong Trieu, Hai Ha, Hoanh Bo, Tien Yen, Van Don and Yen Hung.
Natural resources: Quang Ninh has a plenty of land resources with the total area of 601,000 hectares including 50,364 hectares of agricultural land, 146,019 hectares of forestry land. The province is rich in mineral, especially coal with the reserves of 3.5 billion tons (the exploitation quantity of 30-40 million ton/year); besides it also has raw materials such as limestone, clay, etc. in various places such as limestone in Hoanh Bo district, clay in Gieng Day, Kaolin in Tan Mai, Mong Cai, glass in Van Hai, etc.
Travel resources: Quang Ninh has the most valuable tourism potential in Vietnam with many beautiful beaches, Bai Tu Long and other islands, especially, Ha Long bay has been recognized as the World’s natural hertage two times. Human resources: The number of people of working age is 365,000including 33,338 professional school graduation diploma holders, 12,642 higher education degree holders. Traffic: The province has quite systematic transportation network (roadway: national highways No. 18A, 10, 4B, etc.; railway, seaway, seaports; especially its national and international border gates with China). Power system: Up to now, national power supply network has reached all city, town and districts of the province. There is enough power supplied to national and international investment projects implemented in the province with 7 110 kV stations (Gieng Day, Giap Khau, Cam Pha, Muong Duong, Tien yen and Mong Cai) with the total capacity of 154 MVA and 2 220Kv stations with the capacity of 250MVA. The provincial grid including 35Kv line, 10Kv line and 6Kv line supplies all communes and villages.
Water system:
Post and Telecommunication Systems: The system was developed well and met the demand of the province.
Systems Industrial Zone: There are 6 industrial zones in the provinces: Cai Lan IZ (277.5 hectares), Viet Hung IZ in Ha long city (300.93 hectares), Dong Mai IZ (160 hectares), , Hai Yen IZ (193.7 hectares), Hai Ha IZ (5,000 hectares), Hoanh Bo IZ (1,033 hectares). Phuong Nam IZ in Uong Bi district, The Rammer of Mac Dynasty IZ in Yen Hung district and Quan Trieu IZ in Dong Trieu district are 3 IZs still on the plan stage.
